Cindy White, a teenager with a difficult past, found a job delivering newspapers in a peaceful neighborhood where she met the Roberson family. They lived in a small, welcoming home and often invited Cindy inside for warmth or conversation after her deliveries. Cindy had faced tough times at home, which led to serious emotional pain and time spent in a hospital for mental health. After leaving the hospital, with nowhere stable to go, the Robersons offered her a new start by letting her live with them to look after their children. This new role gave Cindy a sense of belonging and purpose. However, despite the kindness she received, Cindy's inner struggles did not fully heal. On the last day of 1975, while the family was settling in for the night, Cindy, overwhelmed by her unresolved issues, made a tragic decision. She set their Christmas tree on fire. The fire quickly grew out of control, engulfing the home in flames.
