This road is familiar to all Iranians and offers a unique experience for travelers heading to the northern regions of the country, especially the Mazandaran province. Although there are various routes to travel to northern Iran, many believe that the Chalous Road, starting from Karaj, has a special charm and is the best option for a trip to the north. The Chalous Road, with its untouched natural landscapes, is one of the most popular routes to northern Iran. As a result, it often experiences heavy traffic during holidays. The road is lined with dozens of short and long tunnels. Among these, the Kandovan Tunnel is the eleventh and perhaps the most well-known tunnel, connecting Karaj to Chalous and located 90 kilometers south of Chalous. The Chalous Road was constructed during the reign of Reza Shah Pahlavi, using the limited resources available at the time, and it was eventually completed and opened to the public.
