“Albuquerque” by Hunter Gatherer with Maxwell Jones, Live at Gibson Music Hall

“Albuquerque” is the sister song to the title track off my most recent record, “The Big Empty”. I had so much fun in Santa Fe and everywhere else in NM, and when I got to Albuquerque, it was a complete vibe shift I wasn’t ready for. I started daydreaming about a woman who wanted nothing more than to get out of the city she grew up in. It’s the flip to the amazement of seeing the high desert for the first time in Big Empty, it’s the disillusionment of seeing the same thing your whole life. The magic is gone for her. But the driver and narrator is struck by this enigmatic woman. There’s highway hypnosis on an old wagon trail, hazel eyes like sunflowers, turquoise jewelry, quirks and something he’s never seen before that he can’t quite put his finger on. Max is such a lovely guitar player, and adds so much to the song. We played this live at Gibson Community Music Hall in Appleton, and got live board audio from the sound man. The unfortunate news we received after is that not only did the sound man forget to record the first three songs, but also unknowingly had delay on Max’s channel the entire time!
