Empennage Skins On, Top Box Begins (and a European delay)

In this episode, we make real progress on our Sling High Wing build—moving from the hidden, behind-the-scenes engineering to the parts you can finally see taking shape. We start by skinning the empennage, a far easier and more satisfying job than skinning the wings. Once we hit our rhythm—ream, cleco, rivet—the whole assembly came together by lunchtime. After the break, we moved on to the top box, the critical structure where the wings and fuselage meet. It’s a complex piece of engineering, and we approached it with the lessons learned from earlier builds: cleco first, rivet later. With another high wing kit in the shop that’s a month ahead of ours, we were able to double-check our work and avoid reinventing the wheel.
