My cover of Black 47's 'James Connolly', though the arrangement is based off of that of my friend Kevin Grgurich of the trad Irish band, 'Biddy on the Bench'. Connolly was as Scottish-born Irish socialist leader in the early 1900's, and took a central role in both the Dublin lock-out of 1913, and the Easter uprising of 1916. He has been mentioned in several political Irish folk songs, both in reference to the strength of his convictions, and the gruesomeness of his death. Following the surrender of the 1916 uprising, he was sentenced to execution by firing squad, but his wounds from the fighting were so severe that he was unable to stand up.
