Nicolas Ducote, cofounder of one of Latin America’s top think tanks, discusses concerns for Latin American democracy. Mounting authoritarianism, populism, and inequalities exposed by COVID-19 are raising alarms about democracy backsliding in Latin America. Further highlighted by challenges with vaccine distribution and economic recovery, the social and material inequalities in the region have been exacerbated by political upheavals.
