Inauguration function of AMO VISX STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Lasik Laser System was held at SuVi Eye Hospital campus, Kota on August 15, 2011 at 12 noon. Shri Shanti Kumar Dhariwal, (Home Minister, Govt. of Rajasthan) was the chief guest, Dr Subhas M Bethriya (Ex. Professor of Ophthalmology, AIIMS, New Delhi) presided the fuction, Dr Ratna Jain (Mayor) Kota city and Shri Ravindra Tyagi were special guests. Imported from USA, this safest, and most advanced Lasik machine is approved by NASA (National Aeroneutics & Space Agency). This is designed to bring Advanced CustomVue™ laser vision correction and have capability to correct myopia of minus 15 diopter , hyperopia of plus 8 diopter as well as astigmatism, provided corneal thickness is normal. Addressing the participants of inauguration function, Home Minister Sh. Dr Vidushi Sharma & Dr Suresh Pandey explained that the AMO VISX STAR S4 IR™ Excimer Lasik Laser System remains the safest and the most advanced LASIK in the world, and therefore this technology is trusted by both NASA and the US military for their elite personnel. CustomVue LASIK procedure begins with testing done with the WaveScan technology. This test allows us to measure the imperfections that are unique to patient's eyes and produce a WavePrint™ Map, so detailed that it is often referred to as the "fingerprint" of your eye. This information allows the ophthalmologist to "customize" patients' treatment. Once we have created the WavePrint™ Map, the treatment information is transferred to the VISX Star S4 laser system and your procedure is performed. The treatment plan is created for patient's eye only and just like a fingerprint, no two are identical. While answering questions, Dr Vidushi Sharma, Lasik surgeon, explained eligibility criteria for undergoing CustomVue LASIK treatment, the patient having myopia (short sightednesss), hyperopia (far sighteness) or astigmatism should be 18 years of age or older, and should have a prescription which has been stable for 12 months. There is no upper age limit for the procedure. They should have healthy corneas. Women should not be pregnant or within eight weeks of either pregnancy or nursing. Patients with active rheumatoid arthritis or lupus should not have LASIK. Some patients with uncontrolled diabetes should not have the surgery, but those with good blood sugar control and without diabetic eye disease may still have surgery. Patients with very thin corneas may not be candidates for LASIK, but may be eligible for LASEK or epi-LASIK. A comprehensive topographic assessment using the Topography/Pentacam Scheimpflug Imaging System helps to determine the corneal thickness and eligibility.
