LAGANJA ESTRANJA PERFORMS | "I Gotcha" by Shannon Lewis | Choreographed by Mitchel Federan

When I received my Academy ticket for Season 15 of "So You Think You Can Dance," I began intense training immediately. While I graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in dance/choreography, over the last five years my main focus has been drag. I can deathdrop and donkey kick with ease these days, but that is quite different from the dance technique required by the show. I was fortunate, though, that the LGBTQ+ community had my back and helped me find the lessons I needed to be a success. This particular performance was the first solo I prepared. However, I decided to audition with something different for Academy week. So NATCH, I couldn't let our hard work go unseen! Brian Friedman was one of the first choreographers I contacted. He was so gracious and passed me on to his assistant, Mitchel Federan. Mitchel was a total sweetheart from day one and immediately began working with me on this material. Little did I know he would also bring with him two superstars, Arielle Libertore and Hailee Payne (Season 12 of SYTYCD). Over the one month I had to get myself in shape, I fell in love with these talented artists. I hope you enjoy our dance as much as we enjoyed making it!
