Aurizon/TGE express intermodal service 6SP1 passes through Micabil, in western NSW, with ACD6046 & ACD6049 running more or less to time. The "ACD" and "ACB" class are the usual locomotives rostered for this service. The train commences in Sydney NSW and terminates in Perth WA, another three days away. Who is "TGE"? "TGE" is "Team Global Express" started in 2021 following acquisition from Toll Group. Over 8,500 employees working with more than 5,000 delivery partners in Australia and overseas. Multimodal business network of trucks, ships, aircraft and rail. An 11 year contract worth AUD$1.8 billion awarded to Aurizon in 2023 to provide high speed intermodal freight train working. Micabil NSW history: The location opened on the 10th of February 1919 and was closed on the 13th of July 1973. The video was recorded about 1.5km west of the siding which was 1,286 feet long. The little station waiting room now sits in the Condobolin Railway Museum yard having been saved prior to demolition. Micabil was a rural siding for farmers mainly sending baled wool and bagged grain to markets in Sydney NSW. Access to the siding was controlled by a two-lever ground frame at either end. The passenger platform was 134 feet long and had a small waiting shed. Micabil siding didn't have the luxury of the usual five-ton hand crane, common in many NSW rural locations. All freight was loaded on to wagons in the siding by manual labour. A small dam, beyond the fence line, on the Up Main side, was said to have been used to water horses that brought baled wool and bagged wheat to the siding in carts. Back in documents of the day, Micabil was quoted in Safe Working information as "a siding of 1,286 feet long with standing room for 61 wagons in clear." They would be the old four wheeled wagons and not bogies. A Loading Bank once existed at the top of the siding at the Condobolin end, nothing remains of it today as it was demolished some years back. Lumps of coal and cinders, from sitting steam locomotives, can still be seen along the former siding road. General Electric "ACD" class locomotive: These locomotives are made in Australia under licence from GE Transportation in the USA by United Goninan Limited at Newcastle NSW. Designated GE model C44aci they are a heavy duty multi use freight locomotive. The original design concept is a follow on from the Cv40.9i model, of which the "NR" class built from 1996. Over 210 of the C44aci series have been built since 2008 for various rail companies in Australia. Powered by a turbo charged four stroke GE 7FDL-16EFI prime mover delivery BHP of 4,500hp and Net THP of 4,356hp powering a GE GMG192 alternator supplying six GE 5GEB30 traction motors. The locomotives are equipped with WABTEC fast brake EAB. Published track speed is 115KMH Selective fuel levels are offered with 7,300 litre filling for intermodal working, 10,700 litre filling for intermediate working and 13,500 litres (full capacity) for heavy coal train working. These predetermined levels ensure the locomotive is within the weight requirement for the operation selected. ACD6046 was delivered new on the 14th of March 2022 and ACD6049 on the 24th of April 2022. The final locomotive for the "ACD" class was completed in October 2025 with the last unit ACD6075 delivered. Did you know? In the days of settlement, well before the arrival of the railway, Micabil was a staging point for Cobb & Co Coaches. A small hotel was established at Micabil so weary travellers could rest while the horses were changed over. The service discontinued with the arrival of the railway. A plaque exists on a large rock on Kiacatoo Road marking the hotels former location. 0920hrs on Saturday 01st of March 2025.
