Urological Emergencies in Pregnancy | Diagnosis, Treatment & Outcomes Review 2024–2025 Explore how urological emergencies during pregnancy are diagnosed and managed—protecting both maternal and fetal health. This video presents a systematic review and meta-analysis (October 2024–March 2025) focused on the clinical management, diagnostic challenges, and outcomes of urological emergencies in pregnant women. Despite being rare, these conditions can have serious consequences if not promptly identified and treated. Common emergencies covered: Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) Pyelonephritis Nephrolithiasis (Kidney Stones) Hydronephrosis Obstructive uropathy Key Highlights: Use of ultrasound and MRI as safe and effective diagnostic tools Minimally invasive treatments (e.g., ureteral stents, nephrostomy) preferred over traditional surgery Multidisciplinary care improves outcomes Importance of standardized clinical guidelines for pregnancy-specific urological care Future potential for AI-based diagnostics and fetal minimally invasive interventions The data were rigorously analyzed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool, offering strong evidence for clinical recommendations. The review emphasizes the importance of early intervention, precision imaging, and maternal-fetal safety. ////////////////////////////////////////// Management of Obstetrical Urological Emergencies Layman Abstract: Although rare, urological emergencies during pregnancy — like kidney stones, severe urinary tract infections, or blocked urine flow — can seriously affect the health of both the mother and baby. Pregnancy brings changes to the body that make these conditions more complicated to diagnose and treat safely. This review looked at research published between October 2024 and March 2025 to understand how these emergencies are currently handled. It explored how doctors diagnose these conditions (using tools like ultrasound and MRI) and how they treat them while protecting both mother and fetus. Less invasive procedures, like placing small tubes (ureteral stents) or draining urine through the back (percutaneous nephrostomy), were found to be safer alternatives to traditional surgery in many cases. The study emphasized the need for healthcare teams from different specialties to work together and suggested ways to improve current practices. It also highlighted the importance of developing clear treatment guidelines and doing more research on long-term effects for both mother and baby. New technologies, such as advanced imaging and artificial intelligence, may help doctors diagnose these problems earlier and more accurately. Early treatment, especially through less risky procedures for the baby, could make a big difference in outcomes.
