I Spent a Week in Yemen: World's Most Dangerous Country | September 2025

What is really happening in Yemen right now? I spent a week traveling through Yemen — from Seiyun, Shibam, and Tarem to the old streets of Sanaa — to create a raw Yemen documentary unlike anything else. After throwing a dart at the world map and getting here, I explored Yemeni culture, tried traditional Yemeni food, and asked the big question: is Yemen safe? Beyond the cultural discoveries, I also have the Yemen humanitarian crisis explained, analyze the impact of the famine, and just touch on the recent Houthi attacks that shaped life in Yemen in the last few months. This episode goes deeper than a typical Yemen travel vlog. I explain exactly how to travel to Yemen today, what it’s like navigating checkpoints, and how control of the country is divided between the Houthis, the internationally recognized government, and contested areas. You’ll see the aftermath of recent airstrikes in Sanaa, and hear first-hand how the Yemen war affects daily life. From the mud-brick skyscrapers of Shibam to the bustling markets of Seiyun, Yemen is both one of the world’s most beautiful and most dangerous places. Alongside breathtaking architecture, I also experienced hospitality, traditions, and rituals that rarely make international headlines. This film reveals the contrast: a country scarred by conflict, yet rich in culture and resilience. ⚠️ This video is not political — it’s a travel documentary. My goal is to show Yemen through the eyes of a traveler and storyteller, capturing its challenges and its humanity. Travel by Dart is my mission: throw a dart at a world map and travel wherever it lands. This time, fate sent me to Yemen. After watching other inspirational videos from Drew Binsky, Lost Leblanc, and Lethal Crysis, I was risking my life to come here at the worse time in history for this country. Here is the breakdown of this Yemen travel vlog: 0:00 Start: What is really happening in Yemen right now 01:19 How I ended up in Yemen 02:28 How to travel to Yemen 05:28 Welcome to Seiyun 06:28 How power is split in Yemen 07:29 Yemeni culture 07:59 Welcome to Terim 08:59 Al-Muhdar Mosque 09:28 Yemen's social classes 12:04 Yemeni food 13:32 Shibam 20:12 Dart Throw 23:00 Yemen humanitarian crisis explained Here is a little bit more info about the subject: Sanaa Sana’a, Yemen’s constitutional capital and largest city, has a metro population estimated at around 3.5 million in 2025, up from just 46,000 in 1950—a nearly 3.5% annual growth rate. The Old City of Sanaa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shibam Shibam, often called the "Manhattan of the Desert", is an ancient town inhabited for over 1,700 years, famed for its mudbrick tower houses that reach up to 11 stories . This 16th-century walled city is one of the world's earliest examples of vertical urban planning and continues to illustrate resilience through architecture. Seiyun Located in Hadhramaut, Seiyun reported a population of around 135,000 in 2015. It’s known for the Seiyun Palace, one of the world’s largest mudbrick structures—built in 1584, it housed the Kathiri sultans, spans seven floors, and was renovated recently after years of war-related damage. Yemen Humanitarian Crisis Yemen is facing one of the world’s most severe crises: an estimated 4.5 million internally displaced, with 18–19 million people in need of humanitarian assistance—more than half the population. The situation is especially dire in western coastal areas, where malnutrition affects up to 33% of children, and over 17 million people are going hungry, including more than a million children under five. Latest Airstrikes in Sanaa On August 30, 2025, an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa killed the Houthi rebel Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several ministers, representing one of the most significant blows to Houthi leadership. The funeral drew thousands at Al-Saleh Mosque, with renewed vows of retaliation by surviving leaders. Yemeni Food Yemeni cuisine features iconic dishes such as Mandi (meat and spiced rice cooked in a pit), Jachnun (a slow-baked pastry), Kabsa (mixed rice with meat), Samak Mofa (grilled fish), and Jachnun—a rich blend of flavors from centuries of culinary tradition. Street food culture—like Fasolia (beans stew) or fahsa (lamb stew)—captures Yemen’s communal, rapid-serving traditions. 🎯 Where should the dart land next? What is Travel by Dart? Travel by Dart is an inspirational tale of Sorin Mihailovici, an adventurer who throws darts at the world map and travels wherever they land - no matter how far, complicated it is. Hidden gems, travel tips, travel adventure, and more. Seek discomfort, just like the guys from Yes Theory. #Yemen #TravelByDart #YemenTravel #YemeniCulture #YemeniFood #Sanaa #Shibam #Seiyun #YemenDocumentary #LifeInYemen Disclaimer: This video is a travel documentary. It does not promote violence or political agendas. All footage was filmed respectfully to showcase Yemen’s culture, history, and the resilience of its people.
