This video is about the importance of thinking about the lighting we use when we record our piano at home. Most of us (myself included) will use our Smartphones to capture the video and, whilst the most recent models are particularly good in most circumstances, nothing really escapes poor lighting. I start off with some background on the basic principles of exposure - the fundamental way we determine how much light we allow to pass through the lens and reach the sensor. In short, there are certain rules that we must follow to avoid either over or under exposing our videos. Often, some degree of compromise is required, however, with good lighting we can dramatically reduce how much we might need to compromise. I then give a walk through of the lighting equipment I use for the various types of videos I create. There are chapter markers as follows as I know many people will already understand the basics of exposure so please feel free to jump through the video. 00:00 The Importance of Light 00:35 The Basics of Exposure 02:23 Why Light Helps our Camera 03:16 Providing Sufficient Light 04:27 The Lights I Use 06:27 Where to Place Lights I have some other videos in my Recording Piano Playlist that cover aspects of visuals: The Use of Composite Photographs to improve the background : • Recording Piano | Transform the Visual App...
