Is high LDL cholesterol always a red flag for heart disease? New research says… maybe not. New research from The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center challenges the long-held belief that high cholesterol correlates and even directly causes coronary artery disease, or plaque buildup in the arteries, in metabolically healthy individuals. In this video, we explore groundbreaking findings from a study led by Dr. Matt Boudoff. Dr. Adrian Soto-Mota, Dr. Nick Norwitz, and Dave Feldman. This study found that very high cholesterol in 100 otherwise metabolically healthy individuals on a ketogenic diet for an average of 5.7 years did not correlate with atherosclerosis. 🔍 In this video, Dr. Scher breaks down: How the study was conducted An overview of the subject population: Lean Mass Hyper-Responders (LMHRs) Study results and what they may mean for someone following (or considering) a low-carb or ketogenic diet Better alternatives to accurately measure heart disease risk The study points to a clear need to expand cardiovascular disease risk assessment to include a personalized approach that can prioritize cardiac imaging. The researchers also call for an open-minded, multidisciplinary approach to better understanding the heart disease risk of individuals with the LMHR phenotype, who often rely on low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets to keep chronic disease at bay. 🎬 These exciting new findings are featured in Dave Feldman and Jen Isenhart’s upcoming documentary, The Cholesterol Code, the story of how one engineer’s health experiment sparks a global investigation, exposing myths about cholesterol and reshaping our understanding of heart health. Real stories of healing from disease with ketogenic diets provide a blueprint for using food as powerful medicine.
