How To Do An Authentic 1920s Makeup Look C.1922

Irina @retrofrog creates a classic 1920s makeup look. Featuring pale matte skin, downturned sad eyes, rosy blush and heart shaped blood red lips. A festive but easy to do makeup look that won't take you much time or require a lot of products. The famous 'sad eye' or 'downturned eyes' makeup look circa Hollywood 1922. Made popular by Theda Bara and later by Clara Bow. To achieve it, if you're feeling adventurous, you need to shave your eyebrows. But there are alternative ways by using eyebrow cover or a thick pale pan stick as a base. Predating the flapper era the silent movie vamp affected a wistful sad eye look with downturned eyebrows. But behind that innocent face was a burning fire waiting to give birth to the flapper! Step-by-Step Foundation. Apply a thick layer of matte foundation all over your face using a beauty blender. Brows. Using a dark brown pencil, draw a "sad brow" with the outer corner down. Eyes. Use a black pencil to draw a line along the upper and lower lashes, and blend the lines with a brush. Apply gray-brown eyeshadow to the crease of the eyelid, adding color intensity to the outer corner of the eye and the base of the eyebrow. Apply turquoise shimmer eyeshadow to the entire surface of the eyelid using your finger. Darken the outer corner of the eye with graphite eyeshadow. Apply black mascara to the upper and lower lashes. Be sure to use false eyelashes. Concealer. Apply a light concealer to the under-eye area and set it with powder. Blush. Apply a creamy pink blush to the center of your cheeks and blend with a brush. Lips. For this look, a dark red matte lipstick will do. Using an angled brush, pick up the lipstick and outline the lips to create a heart shape and fill in the space with lipstick.
