Thomas Goetz is a journalist, entrepreneur, and author. He uses data and design to help people understand and navigate complicated issues in their world. In his talk he shares about this new approach about designing for health into our everyday life. Thomas is the co-founder of Iodine, an award-winning website that helps millions of people make sense of their health and medicines. Working with the FDA, the Iodine team developed openFDA, a landmark resource for public data on food, drugs, and medical devices. In 2016, Iodine was acquired by GoodRx, the nation’s leading source for prescription drug savings; Thomas presently serves GoodRx as chief of research. For several years Thomas was executive editor at WIRED, which he led to a dozen National Magazine Awards from 2001 to 2013, and where he wrote dozens of cover stories on technology, medicine, and science. Earlier, he was a reporter at The Wall Street Journal and the Village Voice, and has written for The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and The Atlantic. Goetz holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master's in American literature from the University of Virginia. He graduated from Bates College, and plays the cello. Co-Founder of Iodine (GoodRx).
