Bulbophyllum orchids have a tendency to grow pretty chaotic, making them hard to control in a normal pot. They also don't produce extensive root systems, thus baskets or mounts are a much better option. For this reason I decided to mount my Bulbophyllum barbigerum on a cork slab. This tiny orchid is pretty compact compared to other varieties, but it will still climb out of the pot. So I chose a medium sized cork piece, added a thin layer of sphagnum moss on top and tied the orchid using fishing line. Since this orchid is so small, fishing line was the better option. Mounts dry up much faster than pots, for this reason daily watering is required in most cases. The mount can be customized further depending on environment. If it dries up too fast, more moss can always be added by tying it to the cork. This particular Bulbphyllum is known for its bloom's movable lip in air currents. It will be interesting to see the blooms in person, so I will keep you updated with its evolution.
