Spanish - The Verb “Tener” Explained In 6 And A Half Minutes

In this video, I’m explaining the verb “tener” in Spanish. The verb “tener” means to have, and in English, this verb is used roughly the same way as it’s used in Spanish, except for one crucial expression. “Tener” is actually a stem-changing verb, changing from “te” to “tie,” it’s irregular in the yo form (yo tengo), and the stem-changing rule applies only to the tú, él, and ellos pronouns. Nosotros and vosotros are not affected by the stem-changing rule, just like any other stem-changing verb, like poder (which I made a video about). Just like with the verb “ir”, you can say to go and to go to which express different meanings, and use the preposition “a.” “Tener” likewise has this concept of to have and to have to, but in Spanish, the preposition is “que,” rather than “a.” I explain this concept more thoroughly in the video. At last, the verb “tener” can also express states of being relating to age, temperature, hunger, and a few more. I also explain this concept more in the video.
