A convicted murderer who killed his pregnant girlfriend by stabbing and slashing her 23 times was jailed for at least 42 years. Shaine March, 47, attacked Alana Odysseos, 32, when she was in the early stages of pregnancy with her third child in July 2024, following an argument over a pair of trainers. Ms Odysseos was discovered in the street near her home in Walthamstow, east London, and died at the scene shortly afterwards. March initially admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility but entered a guilty plea to a more serious charge of murder partway through his trial. Jurors at the Old Bailey were not old that March had served time in prison for the murder of a teenager, who he stabbed in the neck at a McDonald's restaurant in January 2000. He was convicted of the murder of Andre Drummond, 17, in July that year and jailed for life with a minimum term of 13 years. He was released on licence in early 2013 but was then recalled to jail later that year after an assault on another partner in July, and released again in February 2018. March appeared in court by video link from Belmarsh prison, after initially refusing to come to the Old Bailey to hear his sentence for the murder of Ms Odysseos. The judge, Mr Justice Murray, told him: “You killed Alana knowing she was pregnant. Clearly you intended to kill her and her baby would, at that early stage of pregnancy, have no chance to survive the attack.” This video has been edited to comply with reporting restrictions and to remove disturbances from the public gallery.
