GLAD is committed to full equality under the law for LGBTQ people and people living with HIV. We’re proud to work with individuals, families, and organizations like those in this video who are advocating for justice. Karen Partanen shares the story of her legal fight to ensure she could remain a parent to her kids. Karen’s case led the way for the state of Massachusetts to recognize non-married, non-biological parents like Karen as their children’s full, legal parent. Joe Carleo of AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (ASGCC) shares how GLAD, with co-counsel AIDS Action Committee, helped ASGCC fight back against the town of Barnstable’s attempt to shut down their life-saving needle access program. The case led to a landmark ruling by the Supreme Judicial Court that needle access programs are not only vital public health initiatives, they are legal without restriction across the Commonwealth. Nick’s family are courageous advocates for full inclusion and equality in everyday life – for Nick and for all transgender youth.
