Plymouth Thunderstorm 27th May 2017

A montage of short video clips (handheld on a compact camera) of the severe thunderstorm over Plymouth UK, during the early hours of Saturday May 27th 2017. Most of the lightning was of the sheet lightning type, but there were a couple of very close cloud-to-ground strikes. At its peak, the storm was producing 125 lightning strikes a minute. The UK Met Office estimates there were over 38,000 lightning bolts during this storm. The storm lasted for over 2 hours with almost constant thunder and lightning. It came from the south (English channel) and gradually moved over the SW peninsula towards Wales. One of the most severe storms I've seen in the UK - more like what you might expect to see in the central US, Africa or Australia!
