Meet the presenters Toby Walsh is an ARC Laureate Fellow and Scientia Professor of AI at UNSW and CSIRO Data61, and adjunct professor at QUT. He is a strong advocate for limits to ensure AI is used to improve our lives, having spoken at the UN, and to heads of state, parliamentary bodies, company boards and many other bodies on this topic. He is a Fellow of the Australia Academy of Science, and was named on the international "Who's Who in AI" list of influencers. He has authored three books on AI for a general audience, the most recent entitled "Machines Behaving Badly: the morality of AI" which is published on May 3rd 2022. Bonnie Shaw is Co-founder and Chief Impact Officer of Place Intelligence (2021 YBF Startup of the Year), a Geo AI startup that provides advanced intelligence about our rapidly changing urban environments to help practitioners deliver evidence based design, targeted investment, efficient resource allocation, and effective management to support better outcomes for people and planet. Trained as a landscape architect and urban designer, Bonnie created a popular game early in her career, which resulted in fellowships at the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London and the Senseable Cities Lab at MIT. Since then, she has worked at the forefront of advanced technology development and policy, strategic change management, and community engagement in the service of helping organisations and communities adopt and adapt to new technologies. She has helped to establish and lead several corporate, government, and non-profit innovation labs, delivered the first hackathon at the (Obama) Whitehouse, and led the digital and community team at the Foundation for Young Australians. She was a founding leader in Australia's first (and multi-award winning) Smart Cities team at the City of Melbourne, where she was responsible for an ambitious portfolio of technology, innovation, and community engagement programs. Bonnie Adjunct Professor at both Georgetown University and Melbourne Business School, and was a 2021 finalist in the prestigious Women in AI Awards. She is trained as a Human Potential Coach, bringing data driven approaches to bio-hacking for stress management and performance enhancement to all her work.
