This session explores how School Library Media Specialists (SLMS) blend impactful learning with play, game based learning, STEM/STEAM education, and generative AI through curated play to teach new literacies. Drawing on dissertation research into SLMS perspectives and practice, it offers strategies for facilitating equitable, multimodal literacies and showcases examples from the presenter’s school library. Participants will leave with practical approaches to design reflective, community centered play spaces that support 21st century skills. Patricia Dennis is a doctoral candidate in Educational Technology Leadership based in New Jersey, specializing in STEAM, new literacies, and digital media integration. As a practicing School Library Media Specialist and adjunct professor, she designs curriculum and professional development that blend game based learning, generative AI, and multimodal composition to advance equitable, community centered learning. Patricia has developed STEAM enrichment programs, launched makerspace initiatives, and secured funding and partnerships (Games for Change, Epic Games, ASUS ROG) to bring immersive learning tools—such as Minecraft Education, LEGO Fortnite, and Unreal Engine—into school library spaces
