How to Prune Pear & Peach Trees: Best Practices for Our Backyard Orchard

We show late winter pruning of our young pear & peach trees in our backyard orchard. We assess the trees, discuss best practices, & demonstrate how we prune. We prune our pear tree into a conicle shape much like the shape of a pear which is wider at the bottom and narrow at the top. We prune our peach tree into a vase shape which is much like a peach rounded at the bottom with an open center. We always prune out dead, diseased, or damaged wood as well as any crossing branches. We size prune our trees to keep our fruit in reach for picking without using a ladder. The size of your tree depends on your preference for your garden and your needs.
