She might just have the biggest green thumb in central Virginia which has come in handy when you care for one of Richmond’s premiere landmarks. In his latest “Heroes Among Us” Greg McQuade introduces us to a woman whose name might not ring a bell but if you’ve visited Maymont you certainly have seen her work. Peggy Singlemann has spent the last 38 years keeping the 100-acre park in the middle of the city in tip top shape. The horticulturist and Director of Park Operations at Maymont knows Maymont like the back of her hand. She cares for the flowers, bushes and trees which is no small task. The New York native took the job in 1984. She says when she arrived Maymont had seen better days. Peggy says working at Maymont has been her calling.
