Unfortunately, some fans felt that while they enjoyed the story presented in Black Flag, there wasn’t a ton of the traditional gameplay the series was known for, which admittedly is the kind of fresh innovation that made people fall in love with Black Flag. It was this yearning for a traditional experience that made the standalone DLC Freedom Cry so appealing. Starring the previously quartermaster turned assassin Adewale, 15 years after the events of Black Flag, Freedom Cry sees you returning to your roots with a tried and true gameplay loop, but not much else. Before diving head first into Freedom Cry we have to talk about price point and purpose. Freedom Cry as of writing this video costs 15 Canadian dollars. Considering that Liberation HD costs 20 Canadian dollars and acts as a spin-off of its sister game, comparisons are sure to follow. It’s these comparisons that bothered me most about Freedom Cry. Despite having an immediately likeable character, and familiar and enjoyable gameplay with interesting twists, I was left feeling as though Liberation was a more enjoyable time and better use of your cash. Something I could not shake while playing Freedom Cry was the question of “who was this made for”? I found it difficult to nail down the game's purpose, or what they want to achieve with it. So let’s not delay any further and dive into the deep blue once again and talk about Freedom Cry, the game without a purpose. Freedom Cry is an interesting game. Hey...remember Freedom Cry. Well, if you didn't, this Freedom Cry Review will inform you all about the ups and downs of Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry. Freedom Cry in 2022 is a strange time capsule and replaying Freedom Cry 9 Years Later leaves me feeling as though it's pretty mid. It's not the best Assassins Creed DLC, but not the worst Assassins Creed DLC either. This is the Best of Adewale and stacks up fine against the new Assassins Creed DLC and even the new Assassins Creed Game. But Assassin's Creed IV Freedom Cry has struck me as the DLC without a purpose. So much so that I almost titled this video Freedom Cry The DLC Without a Purpose. Freedom Cry is a fine Assassins Creed story, but a minor footnote in the Assassins creed retrospective. This Freedom Cry retrospective could have been part of the Black Flag retrospective, but had enough to warrant its own video.
