INDEPENDENT STATE OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA Constitutional and Law Reform Commission NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE CONSTITUTION OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA Commemorating 50 Years of Independence The general public and interested stakeholders are hereby informed that the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC), along with other partner agencies, will be hosting a National Conference on the Constitution of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. This National Conference aims to celebrate and mark the 50 years of our Homegrown Constitution, and reflect on its remarkable journey since its inception in 1975. The conference seeks to bring together a diverse range of stakeholders to examine the Constitution’s evolution, its impact, and its role in shaping the nation ahead. The Conference will be held on: Date: Thursday & Friday, 27th – 28th November, 2025 Venue: APEC Haus, Port Moresby Time: 8:30am – 4pm. The organizing committee, led by CLRC is extending an invitation to interested individuals and organizations who may be interested to come and be a part of the discussions. Abstract submission details: Abstract length: Maximum 250 words Abstracts should clearly outline the proposed paper and its significance to PNG society and the Constitution Deadline for the abstract submission: Friday, 14 November 2025 Notification of acceptance: Within 5 days of submission Submit Abstracts via email to: Mr. Biteng Narewec, Principal Legal Officer at CLRC – bitengnarewec@gmail.com. The organizing committee, led by the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission (CLRC), would like to invite submissions from any person interested in the affairs of the Constitution. GUIDELINES FOR CONFERENCE PAPERS AND OUTPUT The Conference is open to any topic relating to the Papua New Guinea Constitution, including but not limited to: Constitutional History and Development National Goals and Directive Principles Democracy and the Rule of Law Human Rights and Freedoms Customary Law and Legal Pluralism Judiciary, Legislature and the Executive Legal Reform, Law Enforcement and Justice Systems Environment, Natural Resources and Development Constitutional and International Law Security, International Relations and Sovereignty Governance, Accountability and Integrity Decentralization, Autonomy and Self-Determination Authors of abstracts accepted for presentation will be invited to contribute to an edited book publication commemorating Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
