Fret Job - Luthier Tools & Tips Guitar Tone Tech Talk & Luthier Demo - How to Professionally Refret a Guitar or Bass (same basic procedure for guitar or bass refret) - How to remove frets from guitar neck - Removing the old frets can do a lot of damage to the fret slots. Bob Gjika demonstrates the way he removes frets to do the least amount of damage to the fret slots. There are many ways that various luthiers have used to remove old frets, and this is Bob's special method, which is more complicated, but faster, and more effective in getting the frets out with the LEAST amount of damage to the fret slots. Since you need a good bond between the fret wire and the wood of the guitar neck, the importance of this step cannot be overemphasized, be very careful in this step to avoid chips, tearing, and other damage that will occur if you rush or otherwise disrespect this step in the refretting procedure. Luthier tools and tips, by Bob Gjika, who has performed thousands of fret jobs on nearly every type of guitar and bass guitar, including vintage guitars of high value. For extremely valuable guitars, it's extremely inadvisable to have an amateur or less skilled/experienced luthier do a refret.
