Vertical Valor flew with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), whose work is critical to enabling American society to reap the benefits of nuclear science, while remaining safe from its most destructive potential. Part of that duty is responding to incidents involving nuclear or radioactive material. This highly specialized role is the domain of the Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST), primarily made up of people who work elsewhere in government, but who bring their skills to bear to avoid a nuclear catastrophe, or respond to one should it happen. Their small fleet of five aircraft — dubbed the Aerial Measuring System — comprises three Beechcraft King Air 350 fixed-wing aircraft and two Leonardo AW139s. Learn more about the NNSA in this video, as well as within our feature story in the Spring Mega Issue of Vertical/Vertical Valor, available in print at Verticon 2025 and online on March 10 at verticalmag.com/issues Video by Lloyd Horgan 👉 Subscribe now to our channel and hit the notification bell 🔔 to stay updated with our latest videos.
