From Norikurakōgen to Mt Norikura via the Norikura Echo Line in late September 2000, before the Norikura Echo Line and the Norikura Skyline Drive were closed to private cars from 2003 onwards (only buses and taxis are now allowed on these roads). In September 2000, it was still possible to drive private cars to the summit area of Tatamidaira (a parking lot at 2,702m; now it is the highest bus stop in Japan). Along the way, countless mountain ranges could be seen, fading off in shades of blue, even though we’d picked a cloudy day for our trip up the Norikura Echo Line. We spent three days at the Alpine Inn MIZUSHIRO (アルパイン ミズシロ).
