Alaçatı is a town on Turkey’s Çeşme Peninsula, on the Aegean Sea. It’s known for its beaches, old stone houses and winemaking tradition. To the northwest is the Ottoman Çeşme Castle, built in the early 16th century and now housing historical artifacts. The Greek island Chios is a short ferry ride away. Alacati is a charming old Greek town located on Turkey’s Cesme peninsular roughly 1 hour from the city of Izmir. Food in Alacati is also a delight. Alacati has fresh seafood, deliciously grilled, stewed, or served chilled in olive oil. In April, there is the Herb Festival, which brings to the fore many fresh herbs that grow locally and are used in dishes special to the area. Then there are ice cream, cookies and coffee, all flavoured with mastic and all with a unique taste. Alacati is definitely a destination worth visiting if you’re ever in Izmir, or even Turkey.
