Surprisingly todays Wembley Stadium station wasn't actually the first Wembley Stadium station on the Main line in fact there was another located half a mile away on the LNER which opened on April 28th 1923 as The Exhibition Station (Wembley) which only had one platform located on a loop between Wembley Hill and Neasden Junction in a clockwise direction. Renamed Wembley Stadium in 1928. It was last used on May 18th 1968 for the 1968 FA Cup Final however it wasn't until over 15 months later on September 1st 1969 when the station was closed for good. Todays station of Wembley Stadium located 0.25 of a mile from the stadium itself surprisingly is unstaffed apart from match days. The station was originally opened as Wembley Hill on November 20th 1905 when a new freight route was provided between Neasden Junction and Northolt Junction. It was renamed Wembley Complex on May 8th 1978 to serve nearby sporting facilities before finally becoming Wembley Stadium on May 11th 1987. Other stations that serve the stadium and nearby SSE Wembley area include Wembley Park on London Underground's Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines as well as Wembley Central and North Wembley on Bakerloo Line and London Overground Watford DC Lines with the two latter being the furtherest away.
