It serves as the sixteenth main installment in the Final Fantasy series and was initially released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 for a limited time. The game introduces segmented open environments that players can explore, along with an engaging combat system that combines melee and magic-based attacks. Familiar elements from the series, such as Chocobos and summoned monsters known as Eikons, make a return. These Eikons can be encountered as powerful bosses and harnessed by the player to unleash their abilities in combat. The story of Final Fantasy XVI unfolds in the fictional world of Valisthea, which is divided among six nations. The nations derive their power from magical Crystals and Dominants, individuals who serve as hosts for the Eikons associated with each nation.
