"You are saying things on national TV that you cannot corroborate. That is irresponsible." American politician Bruce Blakeman was confronted by a CNN panel after making the claim that Palestinian Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil was paid by a terrorist organisation. Khalil, a Palestinian activist and permanent resident of the US, helped lead Columbia University's pro-Palestine encampment movement, his lawyer told the Associated Press. He was arrested at his home on Columbia's Manhattan campus by several Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who informed his lawyer that they were acting on a State Department order to revoke Khalil's student visa. Khalil’s lawyer said he was “chosen as an example” by the Trump administration to “stifle entirely lawful dissent”. A US judge on Monday set a hearing for later this week to consider Palestinian Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil's challenge to his detention as part of US President Donald Trump's crackdown on pro-Palestine protestors.
