After a seven year absence, a steam locomotive once again grace the rails of the Arcade and Attica. With much fanfare, locomotive 18 returned to operation, reclaiming the title of the only operational steam locomotive in the entire state of New York. Sporting a fresh coat of all black paint, 18 hauled sold-out fall foliage excursions to Curriers and back, delighting passengers with a nostalgic journey through the turning foliage. The whistle 18 is sporting is an authentic Canadian National 4 Chime, a rather rare whistle in modern tourist railroading. Arcade and Attica 18 is a 2-8-0 Consolidation that was built in 1920 by the American Locomotive works for export to Cuba. However, she was purchased by Charcoal Iron Company. By 1929 she was then again sold to the Boyne City Railroad in Michigan, where she would serve until 1962, when the railroad dieselized. In that same year, 18, along with two DL&W coaches, were purchased by the Arcade & Attica Railroad, a common carrier looking to begin a tourist operation. She would run until 2001, taking a seven year hiatus until she returned in 2008. After a number of mechanical issues, it was decided that 18 would begin her next overhaul early, in 2017. After another seven year hiatus, 18 would once again return to the rails in 2024, reclaiming her title as the pride and joy of Arcade, New York.
