This is a piece, composed in 1962-3, by Winnipeg composer and clarinettist, Leslie Mann (1923-1977). "Mann uses dissonant tonality and uses chromatic polytonal material...which becomes dissonant to the point of atonality." He dedicated this work to his friend, cellist James Hunter with whom I studied at the Victoria Conservatory of Music (Victoria, British Columbia). I find it an important work that deserves to be played and heard. This run-through in my living-room will have to suffice at this time, but it will give you an idea anyway. Best wishes, Gerald Morin, Cello I Moderato II Allego Ritmico (3:08) III Chaconne. (5:30) IV Allegro Risoluto (11:35) Score obtainable at Canadian Music Centre https://www.musiccentre.ca/node/1308 This post is part of a project #CanadaInUnison, which was created in support of Canadian musicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of social distancing, scheduled gigs and concerts continue to be cancelled, leaving many musicians in a difficult place financially. Unison is an organization that provides support for musicians who don't have access to things like unemployment insurance. They have aid specifically directed at issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but this is an organization that has stood by Canadian musicians in need throughout the years and will continue to do so after this pandemic has run it's course. If you would like to know more, or if you are willing to donate at this time, visit the website: https://www.unisonfund.ca/support-us/... If you are a musician and want to participate, simply record yourself playing a piece written by a Canadian composer, and post it with a link to Unison! #CanadaInUnison #UnissonsnousCanada #LiveinUnison
