Ascension Island Landing and Falklands Wartime Images

In November 2012, as a Falklands War vet, I was given the opportunity of returning to the Islands courtesy of The South Atlantic Medal Association 82, The Falkland Islands Government and the great people of the Islands. The journey, which had taken three weeks by ship in 1982 took 21 hours by way of the Shuttle Charter flight between RAF Brize Norton and RAF Mount Pleasant. Thankfully there was a refueling stop-over at Ascension Island and I took the opportunity to film the landing. Some thirty years previously I had taken some photographs at the airfield (called Wideawake with the ICAO code FHAW) showing some of the military build-up. I have included some of those photographs in this video. Incidentally the Airbus in which we flew (A343, Hifly CS-TQL) was scrapped two months later, so this would have been one of its last few flights. I hope you enjoy watching it.
