God's Gift Card to you

God’s Promises are like gift cards but unlike gift cards - they have no expiry date.  And unlike gift cards - they can be used more than one time.  How do we really cash in on those gift cards? How do we appropriate the Promises of God? When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were threatened to be thrown into a fiery furnace, by Nebuchadnezzar, I believe they remembered and claimed a Promise found in Isaiah 43:2 - “When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you”.  I imagine these faithful servants learned of this promise at their mothers’ knee, and when Nebuchadnezzar said, “I’m going to throw you into the fiery furnace,” the Holy Spirit reminded them of it.  In other words - The Promise was a Gift card that they carried all along and now they were going to cash it. For them the Promise was real.  Listen to the faith and confidence in the tone and words of their response in Daniel 3:17, 18: “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Such real accounts were written as examples for us. What is the lesson?  God does not make empty promises.  His promises reflect His intentions and blessings.  The sad reality is that they remain unclaimed, uncashed and even though they don’t expire they are never used by many of His children.
