2025 was pretty rough in terms of losing friends I had a musical connection with. Earlier in the year a guitar player who had been in my high school band passed from brain cancer, then late fall a guitar player and drummer I’d shared the stage with on multiple charity shows died within weeks of each other. Time was, you would get that kind of news in a phone call, and at least then you had someone to talk with about it. I read the news about my friend Travis’ death on social media, while sitting alone in the waiting room of my doctors office. Stunned… and then, in that moment, The Show Must Go On by Queen came on. I remember this album being released, and very soon after Freddie Mercury died. The vocal performance is spectacular, but knowing how incredibly sick and weak he was during the album’s sessions makes it an absolute miracle. For my friends Pete, Travis and Justin.
