This series of 5 videos, this one and the 4 upcoming each on every Monday were filmed in the Iberian peninsula, in Spain very close to Valencia. Starting today The Birds' Channel presents to you the Iberian green Woodpecker. A bird that is endemic to Spain, Portugal, Andorra and extreme south-west part of France. The basic visible differences from its northern cousin is the lack of a black eye-patch in both sexes and the reduction of the black surround to the red moustachial stripe in the male. This was the first time in my life that I had the privilege to watch a pair of woodpeckers so close. Even though the birds remained for a couple of minutes each, time enough for descent video and photos, they had their mind to the kestrel that was very close to a tree ready to attack them. First the female entered the place followed a couple of minutes after by the male. Both birds had exactly the same behavior. The vital need for water guided them to follow the same steps before getting down to the little pond. Enjoy..
