How would you feel if every time you left the house, you only had 8 hours to live? Jim Lynskey's heart lasts less time than a single charge of his mobile phone. Diagnosed with viral meningitis when he was just two weeks old. It led to an enlargement and weakening of his heart. After several more complications and consecutive cardiac arrests, aged 19, his heart had could began to fail. While Jim waits for a transplant, his only chance of survival is to have a Left Ventricle Assisted Device (LVAD), also known as a heart pump implanted. This device is powered by batteries which last just eight hours. There are over 6,500 patients in the UK waiting for a transplant.
