MUTTS© creator Patrick McDonnell discusses his love for animals and the ways in which he advocates for them in his popular comic strip, as well as through his work with The Humane Society of the United States. Tour his home studio, meet his companion animals, and hear how he provides a voice for animals with his inspiring and creative illustrations. "A lot of animals on this planet have it really tough and don't deserve it. Anything I can do to speak for them and get the word out...that's why I feel like I'm here." Patrick McDonnell is the award-winning creator of the comic strip MUTTS©, which is celebrating its 25th year and appears in over 700 newspapers in 22 countries. He is an international advocate for animals and pet adoption, has produced 10 picture books and received a Caldecott Honor for his biography of Jane Goodall. McDonnell’s play on Jane Goodall was nominated for five Helen Hayes Awards. He has collaborated with author Eckhart Tolle on “Guardians of Being: Spiritual Teaching from Our Dogs and Cats” and on a book of poetry with Daniel Ladinsky that centers on the MUTTS© characters and the bond we have with our four-legged family members. He was included in PBS’ Shelter Me with MUTTS© comic strips based on his observances working with staff at the Animal Care Centers of NYC, was an HSUS board member, and currently serves on the boards of the Fund for Animals and Charles M. Schulz Museum. Support our work! https://hsus.link/patrick_mcdonnell_m...
