Attempting to Save Dying Coral Bark Japanese Maple Tree

My beautiful Sango Kaku Japanese Maple (better known as Coral Bark Japanese Maple) is dying! A rabbit or rabbits ate the bark off at the base of the main trunk of this beautiful tree and now it is dying. In this video, I outline the steps I have taken to save this beautiful tree using a plant propagation technique called "air layering". This is my first attempt at trying to propagate or in this case save a dying tree using the air layering propagation technique. From everything I've read, I should know in 6 to 8 weeks if this air layering technique worked. The air layering propagation technique involves removing the bark from a healthy branch of a tree or shrub and encouraging the healthy branch to produce roots in some type of container filled with soil or other growing medium.
