My beautiful Sango Kaku Japanese Maple (better known as Coral Bark Japanese Maple) is dying! A rabbit or rabbits ate the bark off at the base of the main trunk of this beautiful tree and now it is dying. In this video, I outline the steps I have taken to save this beautiful tree using a plant propagation technique called "air layering". This is my first attempt at trying to propagate or in this case save a dying tree using the air layering propagation technique. From everything I've read, I should know in 6 to 8 weeks if this air layering technique worked. The air layering propagation technique involves removing the bark from a healthy branch of a tree or shrub and encouraging the healthy branch to produce roots in some type of container filled with soil or other growing medium. I will be posting updates on this lifesaving project to my gardening channel so subscribe and follow along to see if this air layering propagation technique is successful in saving this beautiful tree. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.
