(7 Jan 2025) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Atlanta - 7 January 2025 1. Martin Luther King Jr art poster 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center: "Many may feel that it's an impossible feat to take on the challenges in our world today, and that the problems may seem insurmountable at times. But the life, legacy and leadership of President Carter, my father, and my mother, are testament to the fact that it is possible to confront the problems in our world house and create a just, humane, equitable and peaceful world. That is why members of the King Center team felt that it was critical to frame the 2025 King holiday theme as 'Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365'." 3. King Center emblem 4. Various of King holiday banners 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center: "So we have a wonderful opportunity as people to not lose hope, you know, because the person that perhaps some people did not want to see in that seat was elected to the presidency, because at the end of the day, we can, if we believe in first, and then if we work in concert with organizations that are, you know, in D.C. that represent the issues of people - we have to combine efforts. Or down in your states." 6. King holiday banner 7. Operation HOPE President/CFO Brian Betts speaks to audience 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center: "A lot of people are concerned about many of these issues being thrown back to the states and people being concerned about some of the, you know, attacks on certain freedoms, talking about abortion rights or voting rights happening at the state level and the Trump administration throwing it back to states. Here you have a former president who passed who happened to be a governor in a southern state. You you can't make this stuff up. It's a message. And who served as the president. So it's like, what can we learn from the life of Jimmy Carter as a leader and what can we learn from the life of Martin Luther King Jr. It's like a double. Like, wake up. Wake up." 9. Dr. Bernice King speaks at microphone STORYLINE: As the holiday honoring civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. approaches, his daughter is urging people to really focus on his teachings and work throughout the coming year, rather than just quoting him or celebrating for a day. The Rev. Bernice King, CEO of the King Center in Atlanta, spoke Tuesday as she kicked off a series of events — summits, service projects and educational opportunities — leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20. Coretta Scott King founded the King Center in 1968 to memorialize her husband's life, work, legacy and commitment to nonviolence. As she outlined the plans for the King holiday observance and talked about the King Center's future, Bernice King reflected on violence and hardship in the world. She also spoke about the upcoming presidential inauguration of Donald Trump — which falls on the MLK holiday — and on the legacy of President Jimmy Carter. =========================================================== Clients are reminded to adhere to all listed restrictions and to check the terms of their licence agreements.
