Cellphone and surveillance video released during a news conference Wednesday show a Grand Rapids Police officer shoot a man in the head while on top of him during a struggle that occurred April 4 following a traffic stop. The officer, who is white, is seen shooting and killing 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya, approximately three minutes after pulling Lyoya over for a license plate violation on the city's southeast side. In addition to the cellphone and surveillance video, police released the officer's body and dashcam video. Grand Rapids city manager Mark Washington said during the news conference the videos were shocking to watch. “Unfortunately I'm here today where another African-American has died because of the use of lethal force from law enforcement,” Washington said.
