TERRY OOT THE BACK - VIRTUAL TRIP 2021 - THE MAIN SHOW 20th JUNE 2021

It is June 2021 and with government restrictions on gatherings & travel etc still in place due to Covid-19, it was not safe to have our Trip to the seaside this year again. So how can we still mark and celebrate this unique tradition of ours? We asked everyone to once again create the Trip in their own spaces and have "Terry - Oot The Back!" We hope for good weather and that everyone will be able to safely join with us in their gazebo's and gardens with bbq's and games just like they would if we were at the seaside. Last year the response was fantastic and although this can never compare with the real Trip it has shown to us in the build up that people really do love being able to get away with the trip and their families, friends, neighbours, classmates, parish and community. Many things were put in place in order to create this virtual trip but typical Shotts weather postponed some of these activities and have meant a reduction in what we had hoped to bring you today. We were delighted that the school came on board with us and embraced Trip week were the kids have been learning to sing Terry, having processions round the school like they would walking to the beach, and best of all having a fun day in the school yard which included bringing in huge inflatables for them to play on, We hope every single one of them had a great time! Thank you to all the staff of St Patrick's Primary & Nursery Schools. St Patrick's Brass Band Shotts, once again joined us to create the music we hear while at the Trip, Hail Glorious St Patrick, Faith of our Fathers, Hail Queen of Heaven and of course Terry! A fantastic effort by them all in these challenging times and we thank them wholeheartedly for giving their time to do this for us. St Patrick's Choir also put words to these fantastic hymns and created more poignant moments for us, Thank you. Fr Brady allowed us the use of the parish gardens to film some of our scenes and to give the final blessing like he would at the end of the day on the trips return to the school yard, Thank you. To the many people who have taken part, performed, worked behind the scenes we can never re-pay you but please know how much we appreciate everything you do for us, Sean Quinn & family, Martin Begley, & family, John Traynor & family, Michael Fallan & family, Karrie Edwards, Alan Brown, Paul Hutton, Barry Quigley, Joseph Hoey, David Kerr, Gerry Connelly, Gerry Murphy, Susan Smith and everyone who takes part in our weekly sweep which funds everything that we do. Apologies to anyone who may have been missed. The outing which has now become the Trip was first started in 1926, this year will see us reach 95! This video is a combination of reflection on its great history and the many stalwarts and characters who kept it going, a nod to the people who currently participate & make it what it is and, a hope that for the future that the younger generation coming through will realise after the health issues have been resolved that it is great to be part of a community, it is great to have the time & the ability to be with your family and friends having fun while enjoying a day out, looking out for one another and generally making everyone feel good about themselves, it is good to be nice and be part of something bigger. Not everyone has what we have so please don't ever let it slip away. The beauty of The Trip is its simplicity!
