Schools of thought in psychology

In this video, I provide a concise overview of the history of psychology and its major schools of thought. I begin by highlighting the contributions of influential philosophers like René Descartes and Immanuel Kant, leading to the establishment of psychology as a distinct science in the 19th century with Wilhelm Wundt's founding of the first experimental psychology laboratory. Various schools are discussed, including structuralism, functionalism, psychoanalysis, behaviorism, humanistic psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, evolutionary psychology, the sociocultural approach, the trait-theoretical approach, and positive psychology. Each school offers a unique perspective on understanding the mind and behavior, from Freud's emphasis on the unconscious to the cognitive focus on thought processes and the trait approach's analysis of personality. The video concludes by noting that these approaches are now viewed as complementary rather than competitive.
