Shelby High School is a public high school in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Shelby High School is one of the 5 high schools in Cleveland County. Located on the edge of Shelby, NC (for which the high school represents) - the high school has only been at the current location since 1961. Shelby High School was founded 143 years ago in 1877. With the school being founded in 1877 , this makes Shelby High School one of the oldest high schools in North Carolina. Early records show that Shelby High School was located off West Marion Street in downtown Shelby until it reached it's current location. With a little less than 900 students currently, Shelby is the second smallest smallest high school in Cleveland County based on attendance but the high school ranks high in achievements - especially in sports. Shelby High School has a rich history in Football. Shelby High School is a 2AA school in the North Carolina classification size and has won 18 Football State Championships. Recently they captured their 2nd straight 2AA state championship beating Salisbury 34 to 0 last year. This was their 5th in the last 6 years. The Golden Lions are always a stiff competition for anyone who plays against them. Last but not least, Shelby High School holds the American Legion World Series on their campus every year in Keeter Stadium since 2011. This is where the 2 best out of 3,786 teams play for the title.
