Today, we delve into Shumba Muguriri in Masvingo Nemamwa, led by Chief Nemamwa and his elders, as they narrate the history of the Nemamwa people of Shumba Muguriri. According to Chief Nemamwa, the name "Nemamwa" originated when the founder of the Nemamwa Clan found a girl child at a spring and later married her as his wife. They claim to be the original inhabitants of the Dzimbabwe area, also known as Great Zimbabwe today, the other name for Shumba Muguriri is Vameri Mujejeje. The Nemamwa people assert that Great Zimbabwe was theirs; they built it, but it was later taken over by the Rozvi. They state that Great Zimbabwe was their residence before the Rozvi arrived, and after the Rozvi left, they were left in charge and they were named "Varinda Gomo". The name "Shumba Muguriri" is said to have come from their generosity in parceling out land to other groups. For instance, they gave land to Chainda, now known as Charumbira, who later married their daughter Vheneka. Shumba Muguriri gave Charumbira's first son, land on top of Nhinhi Hills to rule over that area. Murinye, whose real name was Pabva and a son-in-law to the Nemamwa people, was also given land. They claim that Chipfunhu, known today as Mugabe, fought the Nemamwa people with the help of white people. For more, let's listen to Chief Nemamwa's narration.
