We cannot speak about madeiran culture without mentioning "Our lady of Piety’s festival" (Festa da nossa senhora da Piedade). Every year thousands of people reunite for the most important day of Caniçal’s year, and definitely the most beautiful and emotional fest in Madeira. This fishing town wait all year for that day. The procession starts on Saturday from the port where dozens of boats follow the main one, which will have the privilege to carry the Santa’s situated in a chapel on top of a mountain. After bringing it to the town and celebrating all night, the statue is brought back to where it belongs, followed by hundreds of people, religious or not. I hope you will understand how deep is the meaning of this moment, from the preparation of the event to the edition of this video.
