Direct vs Indirect Communication

Direct vs indirect communication is especially important if you travel or move to another country or culture. There are cultures which communicate very direct whereas people in other cultures communicate rather indirect. If you do not understand the other’s communication style, you will risk to not understand each other which leads to bad feelings and tension. In this video we will look at the characteristics of direct and indirect communication. We will also identify the countries in which you communicate rather direct or indirect in order to help you to become a better intercultural communicator. Some of the material is adapted from (Brooks Peterson, 2004. Cultural Intelligence, Intercultural Press, Boston.)
